Garage door tracks guide the rollers, and when a rail is bent, loose or out of line the door binds, scrapes or jumps off. The fix depends on the damage. A rail that is nicked or mildly bent can often be reshaped and realigned, while a creased rail, a track that has lost its curve or a rail with stretched mounting holes is replaced. We check both vertical tracks for plumb, the horizontal tracks for level, and the gap between roller and rail, which should be even from top to bottom.
Track and door work as a system. DASMA warns that a new door should run on the track designed for it, because section thickness, weight, headroom and opener position all matter, and the same logic is why we do not force a bent rail back into service. Where the jamb has moved, we fasten the track to solid framing in its current position rather than back to its original line, and we tighten the brackets that loosen with years of vibration.
