Lifting cables carry the door's full weight through every cycle, wound tight on their drums. In Georgia humidity they fail from the inside: moisture wicks into the braid, corrosion starts at the core, and by the time a fray shows at the bottom bracket the cable is on borrowed time. When one parts, the door lurches crooked, jams in its tracks, and starts bending expensive things.
We replace cables in matched pairs sized to the door, inspect drums for grooving and bottom brackets for rust, and re-tension the system until the door tracks dead straight. It's a quick call when it's planned — and a much bigger one when the cable chooses the moment.
Cable corrosion here is an inside job — the braid's core rusts before the surface admits anything, fed by humid summers and damp garage slabs. Bottom brackets collect sprinkler water and red-clay splash and quietly rot at their anchors. Every cable call includes the anchor points, because a new cable on a rusted bracket is half a repair.

Cable work is really drum work, and that is where we look first. A lifting cable does not usually fail on its own: the drum develops a groove or works loose on the shaft, the cable seats badly, one side unspools early, and the strand takes the punishment. So on every cable call we inspect both drums for grooving and set-screw slip, both bottom brackets for rust-through, and the shaft for straightness, before winding anything. On older Augusta doors we also check the type of counterbalance system, because a few extension-spring doors are still in service around the region and their cable and pulley setup is completely different from a torsion system. Then the cables go in as a matched pair, seated to the same drum position, and we cycle the door several times watching each side track evenly. A cable that looks correct at rest can still be a quarter turn off, and that is what puts a door out of level a month later.
